Portrait Faq

Q: WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
A: I’m in the Poconos of Pennsylvania, but I shoot all over Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Upstate NY.

Q: DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB BESIDES PHOTOGRAPHY?
A: Nope! This is my career, and I am blessed to be a full-time photographer since 2010.

Q: DO YOU SHOOT WEDDINGS?
A: Yes! I specialize in Wedding Photography and Family Portraiture. Check out my WEDDING FAQ for more info.

Q: DO YOU OFFER “MINI SESSIONS”?
A: A few select times of year I will offer Mini Sessions, since I know how convenient they are for my clients that want updated portraits but may not need a full session. Typically, I offer one in the fall, and one around the Holidays.

Q: WHAT’S INCLUDED WITH EACH SESSION?
A: Currently (2023) you will receive your high-resolution digital images with printing rights via private password-protected online gallery for easy download. High-resolution images discs or USB’s are available as an add-on to your session for small fee.

Q: HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL I RECEIVE?
A: For a one-hour session you can expect 50+ images, often more. I also include black and white duplicates.

Q: HOW LONG DO SESSIONS LAST?
A: Standard Shoots are one-hour long (Maternity, Engagement, Children, Family). Newborn Sessions are two-hour sessions.

Q: DO WE PICK THE LOCATION, OR YOU?
A: I have plenty of great location suggestions (both local and travel) that I can recommend based on what you were looking for, and I’m always up for trying new places!

Q: DO YOU TRAVEL FOR SESSIONS?
A: My Standard Session Fee includes 40 miles of round-trip travel from my home, and additional miles have a small travel fee of $.50 per mile. Maximum travel of two hours (each way).

Q: DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?
A: Yes. Shoots require a 50% (non-refundable, but transferable) deposit to book and secure your date, and the remaining 50% is due the day of your session.

Q: WHAT TYPE OF PAYMENT(S) DO YOU ACCEPT?
A: Cash, Check, or PayPal.

Q: HOW LONG UNTIL I RECEIVE MY PHOTOS AFTER THE SHOOT?
A: My typical turn-around is 10 business days for Standard Sessions.

Q: WHAT IF I HAVE TO RESCHEDULE?
A: Please contact me as soon as possible if you have to reschedule your session. I completely understand that life happens, so we can just pick a new date and time. Please try to keep in mind that when I book your shoot I reserve that date and time just for you, and cancelling last-minute for non-emergency related things prevents me from being able to re-fill the time slot.

Q: HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I SCHEDULE A SHOOT?
A: I’m typically booked out at least a month or two in advance, so contact me as soon as you’re able to reserve a session. I sometimes have last-minute openings, so just send me a message!

Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY SHOOT?
A: I created “What To Wear” picture boards with outfit suggestions and tips, for both ADULTS + CHILDREN. I find they can be really helpful if you need ideas or inspiration. Please feel free to message me with pictures or questions when selecting your outfits.

Q: WHAT DO WE DO IF IT RAINS?
A: I follow the weather very closely leading up to all shoots, but honestly the weather can change so much even right up until the morning-of, so I do a final check a few hours prior, and if it’s raining, we just reschedule.

Q: CAN I PURCHASE PRINTS THROUGH YOU?
A: Yes! I do offer affordable professional quality prints from your session, and offer prints al-la-carte as well as multiple print packages.

Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY PACKAGES?
A: I do have “Grow With Me” packages, which are multiple session packages for milestones of your child’s life (Maternity/Newborn/6 Months/12 Months, etc.). Please contact me for more information on these milestone packages.

Q: DO YOU PROVIDE PROPS?
A: I prefer to create portraits that focus mainly on my clients, so I don’t typically use a ton of props. I do have some simple and natural props I can bring to sessions, but I prefer to keep things simple. I don’t mind incorporating a few though, and prefer that props are natural and personal to you and your family. If you want to include anything, please feel free to ask!

Q: CAN I DO AN OUTFIT CHANGE?
A: We can do one (optional) outfit change, which is nice if you want to start in something a little dressier and change into something more casual halfway through the shoot. Please keep in mind that not all locations have a place to change comfortably.

Q: WHAT’S A “PRINT RELEASE”?
A: A print release gives you permission to print your images at a lab of your choice, and I currently don’t have any quantity or size restrictions. Jill Katherine Photography still owns the Copyright to all images.

Q: WILL I RECEIVE ALL THE PHOTOS YOU TOOK?
A: After your shoot, I cull all the images and discard any that are not up to my artistic standards. Mainly duplicates, or anything non-useable (blinking, etc.)

Q: DO YOU EDIT/PHOTOSHOP THE PHOTOS?
A: I have a standard workflow that I’ve crafted over the years to meet my artistic standards, and I prefer to keep my images as natural as possible.


Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PHOTOGRAPHER?
A: I started my business in 2010. I jumped in and never looked back. I’ve wanted to be a photographer for as long as I can remember, and I’m so happy that I get to live out my dream!

Q: DO YOU HAVE A STUDIO?
A: I never saw myself as a studio photographer, and I prefer the variety of on-location sessions. We can plan a fun outdoor session or an indoor lifestyle session at your home.

Q: DO YOU SHOOT PARTIES OR EVENTS OTHER THAN WEDDINGS?
A: I don’t currently offer these types of shoots (Birthday Parties, Baptisms/Christenings, Baby/Bridal Showers).
